Blue Sonoran Desert: An Augmented Reality Mural
Where art meets technology.
The mural, "Blue Sonoran Desert", was designed by School of Art professor, Jenn Liv, to reflect its location in the Lundgren Consumer Science Lab and the cutting-edge XR resources available in this space. Visitors can use their devices to see the mural come to life.
The Artwork
The mural depicts a woman jumping into repeating panels, going beyond her reality and immersing herself in new worlds. The environment, plants, and characters—all of which move in the wind through AR—represent the Tucson community and Arizona's desert climate. The color palette reflects official U of A branding colors to represent the school's identity.
Extended Reality Experience
The theme of extended reality is enhanced through the augmented reality component, which brings motion and interaction to the static artwork. This creates a bridge between traditional art and cutting-edge XR technology, reflecting the innovative resources available in the Lab.
Visit the Mural
The mural is located on the entrance wall to the Lundgren Consumer Sciences Lab at the McClelland Park building, 650 N Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719. The building is open to the public during the day.
